Dear Parents,
We know that another app might be the last thing you want to hear about.
We get it!. As parents ourselves, we’re also navigating screen time, endless trends, and what really deserves our kids' attention. So often, we see our children swept up in the latest game or trend, leaving us wondering what’s truly valuable and what isn’t.
With this in mind, we’ve developed Howami—an app created to be an antidote to distraction and a meaningful tool to guide your young menstruating teen “home” to themselves.
Our goal is to fill a gap we’ve seen: the lack of connection and understanding many young people feel with their own bodies 4 phases of menstrual cycle, especially as they begin their menstrual cycles. From that first cycle (typically between ages 11-15) to the decades that follow, the menstrual cycle affects so much more than periods—it’s tied to emotions, energy levels, mood, and overall well-being.
These fluctuations, rooted in a natural hormone cycle, affect every part of daily life, from mood and motivation to focus and social energy.
Yet, many apps miss the mark for young people, often because they are overly technical, impersonal, and rigid. We wanted Howami to stand out, fostering a sense of fun and exploration rather than just tracking. Most importantly, we aim to make menstrual cycle awareness an enjoyable practice that young people return to each day because it feels good and meaningful.
We’ve designed Howami to be an interactive, visually engaging experience that combines gaming and learning in a way that’s engaging, fun, and affirming.
Every day, users will get to check in with themselves in a way that validates their emotions, physical sensations, and unique experience. Learning through play is central here—research has shown that play boosts learning by fostering curiosity, enhancing emotional connection, and encouraging problem-solving.
By making self-awareness fun, Howami helps young people build resilience and empathy for themselves in the process.
As parents, we’re committed to protecting our young users’ attention and privacy. Our app doesn’t rely on data-driven metrics or impersonal scores; instead, it’s about helping each user connect with their natural rhythms and feel at home in their body. We believe that this kind of daily check-in can inspire teens to feel comfortable in their own skin and develop a positive relationship with their menstrual cycle over time.
Thank you for considering Howami as part of your child’s journey. We’d love to be the app that helps guide them toward self-compassion, confidence, and a lifelong understanding of their inner rhythms.
Warm regards,
The Howami Team
